Worth knowing

If your income comes through a platform, Inland Revenue already sees it

Since 1 January 2024, New Zealand-resident marketplaces — Uber, Airbnb, Bookabach, DoorDash and others — report seller income to Inland Revenue each year by 7 February.

We mention this because a lot of people genuinely do not know, and finding out late is worse than finding out now. It is not a reason to panic. It is a reason to make sure what you file matches what they already have.

If you are behind, that is a common position and a fixable one. Tell us how far back it goes and we will quote the catch-up as a fixed fee before starting.

FAQ

Common questions

No. There is no e-invoicing mandate for private businesses in New Zealand. The reason people do it is that it gets them paid faster and cuts out re-keying.

Around 135 government agencies are required to pay e-invoices within 5 business days. A PDF or paper invoice to the same agency sits on the 10 business day track. If you supply ACC, NZTA, Health New Zealand, NZ Police or similar, that is a straightforward cashflow gain for a one-off setup.

Usually not. Around 57 accounting and invoicing software providers in New Zealand already support e-invoicing, many at no extra cost or a small one. If you are on Xero or MYOB, the capability is very likely already sitting in your subscription.

ClearDesk supports authorised clients with records, return preparation and myIR administration within the agreed scope. Where specialist representation or advice is required, we coordinate an appropriate professional handover.

Yes. Subscriptions are not included in our fees — you either hold your own or we arrange it at cost with no margin added.

English, Hindi and Punjabi. A lot of our clients would simply rather explain their situation in their own language, and there is no reason they should not be able to.
